I got the YLOD on my PS3 and since my warranty is expired Sony said the only way I could save my data is to get a harddrive adapter like this and plug it into my laptop. I removed my PS3 harddrive which is a SATA 2.5 and put it on the harddrive adapter docking system then I plugged it into my laptop. My laptop installed the hardware and recognized it but it wont let me view whats on the PS3 HARDDRIVE! I bought this Harddrive Adapter so I could copy my Saved Game Data to my Laptop so when I send Sony my PS3 I can copy all the saved data from my laptop and copy it to my new PS3. CAN SOMEONE EXPLAIN TO ME WHY THIS WONT WORK! there is a SATA port on the Adapter but the box didnt come with a SATA CORD. Do I need a SATA CORD also if I want my laptop to be able to read whats on the PS3 HARDDRIVE!?!?!?! PLEASE SOMEONE REPLY AND HELP ME! I DONT WANT TO LOSE 2 and a half years of SAVED GAME DATA!!! :’(

During the recent flood in Nashville, my house was flooded with 5 ft. of water in the house. My Desktop as well as my external hard drive were totally submerged in muddy water. I retrieved both of these drives from their cases and cleaned all the external dirt from them. I figured that they were both probably toast, and was thinking about sending one or both to a data recovery shop to see if my data could be saved. Some investigation revealed that this could cost from $700 to $1200 each. I opened up my external HDD and it appeared that there was no water intrusion into the hard disk area. I saw the Xion dock on Amazon and since it was only $20 bucks, I thought that I would give it a shot. I hooked up the Xion to my laptop and incredibly I was able to retrieve all my data from both hard drives!!

I’ve had this device for over a year now. If you use this USB Dock in junction with another External USB hard drive, it will cause your USB drivers to become corrupted. Once corrupted, if you try and transfer move than a few files at a time to another device, every USB port locks up, and causes the CPU to jump to 100%. I am a System Engineer, and have tested everything on many rigs, and found this product to be the problem. Only thing you can do is to perform a OS reinstall. Even after a fresh OS Reload, if you use the device, it still happens. Updating or reinstalling drivers does not help. This problem has happened on multiple machines using Multiple version of Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, and Windows 7. Once I threw away the device, reloaded my machine, and got another dock….I never had the issue again. BUYER BEWARE. This is a good product if you don’t plan to hook up another external USB storage device at the same time.

I got this enclosure so that I’d be able to easily plug in my SATA drives that aren’t plugged into my mainboard. The device works really well; it’s easy to remove and place drives into, setup was not a problem, it’s pretty compact and does what it needs to do.
The only issue I have with it is that the power cable for it is a little short.

I’ve had this product now for about three months and have used it to access a desktop SATA drive that I won. I haven’t been able to test the 2.5″ SATA connection yet because I don’t have one. I’ve been able to successfully partition the drive and create backups for both our Vista and XP computers. The only issue I have with this docking station is that it has to be externally powered. So wherever I take it, I have to lug along a power cord. That’s not a big deal, but I would rather carry fewer things than more. Overall, I am happy with this product and would recommend it to others.
